A Lewiston tradition, now in its eleventh year, honoring the crew that perished with the The SS Edmund Fitzgerald, the “Mighty Fitz”, the American Great Lakes freighter that sank during a ferocious storm on Lake Superior on November 10, 1975. Join us for two special events “when the skies of November turn gloomy…”

Wednesday, November 6th, 2024

Join us for an evening of remembrance, storytelling, friendship, art and music, all celebrated with a special brew and delicious eats at the Brickyard Brewing Company.

Admission is $10 for the general public and free for LCA members.

Mighty Fitz 5K Race

Meet at the Brickyard Brewing Company

The Mighty Fitz 5K race will take runners through the Village of Lewiston, Artpark State Park and along the Niagara River waterfront. There will be a post race celebration and awards ceremony at the Brickyard with food, Gitchegumee beer specials, special edition “Mighty Fitz” commemorative t-shirts, and live music.

Since 1966, The Lewiston Art Festival has attracted visitors and art lovers from across Western New York and Southern Ontario, as well as international visitors from Niagara Falls, just 10 minutes away. For two days, the picturesque and historic Village of Lewiston, New York welcomes more than 150 exceptional artists and fine crafters. You get the chance to meet the artists, discuss their work one-on-one—and find something you love.

Where were you in the summer of ’69? Watching the moon landing on your 21-inch TV? Joyriding in the backseat of your best friend’s Chevy Corvair? Or were you just a twinkle in your daddy’s–or granddaddy’s!--eye?

Well, break out your favorite tie dyed T-shirt and your bell bottom jeans and head down to Academy Park for the grooviest summer happening around. Hang loose with Lewiston's own 1960's rock musicians as they reunite for a far-out, free concert of favorites from the 60's, 70's and 80's. Come feel the love!

The dead do not rest easy in Lewiston…rather they come “alive” through stories and music on this walking tour through the historic, haunted Village of Lewiston.

Our newest GhostWalk, “Sailors, Soldiers and Saloons,” tells tales both tall and true, ghastly and grim, mystical, musical….and murderous! Follow our offbeat theatrical guides as they take you on an eerie adventure back in time to meet those who walked these roads before us, who were “only passing through,” but who met a very different fate than they had planned.

Everything was right–organized/supported/thought-out–from the guides with flashlights, to the easy moving from place to place, to the wonderful, polished, memorable performances of each player and the great learning experience of each story. From zero, I’m about to do research on the Queenston Battle, the Cibola Burning, the Arsenic Murders–it will be such fun to learn about these and discover on my own–what an education should be. Bravo to all–we love it–also will join and for sure be there next year.”

The Lewiston Council on the Arts is thrilled to announce that the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra will be performing in the Alphonso DiMino Memorial Bandshell at Academy Park in Lewiston on Saturday, July 27th, at 7pm. This free concert is made possible by the generous sponsorship of Anthony DiMino, of DiMino’s Lewiston Tops.

Led by Agentenian conductor Fernanda Lastra, this world-class orchestra is playing a fun, family-friendly concert of favorite, familiar tunes.

Bring your blanket or some chairs and enjoy and evening under the summer sky with some incredible music–picnicking is encouraged!

The heart of Lewiston, Academy Park, is the perfect place to gather to view the 4th of July fireworks.

The Lewiston Council on the Arts is adding to the Village’s Independence Day

celebration by presenting an evening of dance and music.

At 7pm, the VFW Downriver Post 7487 will Present the Colors, to be followed by the National Anthem, sung by baritone Dominic Townsend.

We will have performances by the Greater Niagara Ballet Company and the Lewiston Rockettes from Janet Dunstan’s Dance Academy.

Then the band Reflector will give a full concert of all your favorites–Tom Petty, Tragically Hip, The Cure, Matchbox 20, Tears for Fears, Simple Minds, The Doors–and many, many more.

It is sure to be a wonderful evening—pack your cooler and meet us there!

From corsets to cage crinolines, petticoats and parasols, learn about the many layers that ladies were wearing in the mid-nineteenth century with public historian and dressmaker, Anneliese Meck. Anneliese will discuss what it took to be fashionable, while getting dressed in a historical reproduction of an 1860's ensemble, complete with the proper undergarments, day dress, and accessories.

Anneliese Meck is a public historian and content creator, specializing in historical costume construction, living history, and textile arts. She has worked at the Genesee Country Village and Museum since 2014, and is a graduate of Kent State University, where she majored in costumes and textiles. Local crime fiction author, Lissa Marie Redmond, will share the story of how she went from a career in law enforcement serving with the Buffalo Police Department to published mystery author.

Lissa Marie Redmond was born and raised in Western New York. Lissa writes the Cold Case Investigation series. Catch Your Death is her latest installment in the series. Her standalone thriller, The Secrets They Left Behind, is also available in print, eBook, and audio. A Derringer Award nominated short story author, her short fiction has appeared in numerous anthologies, Down & Out: The Magazine, and Mystery Tribune.
